A mobile phone app for iPhone and android, Uber, is struggling to compete with local limo service providers in Denver. It happened after Colorado regulators proposed rules that would limit or even drive Uber out of business.
This Tuesday Uber started a petition on their blog encouraging their users to show their protest against changes in regulations. The petition would go straight to Gov. J. Hickenlooper and other members of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. If it works, the petition will stop for the regulation being changed on the Uber general manager of the Colorado branch, William McCollum claims the new changes “the backbone structure of our app will be extremely affected. The new rules are targeting the way our system works. PUC is just trying to push us out of business.” Uber’s lawyers add the regulation would keep the drivers 200 feet away from the restaurants and bars claiming it unfair.
Colorado Public Utilities Commission argues that the new proposals are not directed toward limo app only. “If Uber is transparent and operates the way they claim, it should not be any issues with the new regulations.”
Uber is a limousine service app which grew in popularity over the past couple of years. It started in San Francisco and expanded into New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver and many more cities. Currently it is introducing its services to Europe. Once it started operation, the authorities argued that the black ac limousines service is competing with already established cab services. Cabbies are not happy either, since more and more people choose to go with the classy black car with a professional chauffeur instead of a taxi.
